Just a few samples of projects that I have worked on with brief summaries of what the owners asked for.
This garden level studio apartment needed a new kitchen. The owner wanted a more functional kitchen with some seating for dinning since there isn't another place to eat in the kitchen except for the coffee table in front of the couch.
Shifting the kitchen layout into a galley kitchen I was able to give the kitchen, not only more cabinets, but more functional storage and counter space by eliminating the dead corner. Adding a peninsula gave the tenant not only a place to eat but also a landing zone upon entering the apartment.
A couple had a small "terrible" kitchen with a half bath in an old addition on the back of their house. They didn't have the budget to move any exterior walls or windows, didn't want to loose the half bath, and couldn't think of a way to make the kitchen more fuctional.
The proposed space opens up the space and streamlines the foot traffic, keeping it out of the way of the cook while making more functional. It takes the window from the half bath but adds the much needed light to the dark kitchen.
This is a rendering of an existing house for a couple who loves their house but wants a little more space. They wanted a little more space on each floor, a tv room with a door that could be closed on the main floor and an existing bedroom turned into a master suite. They also wanted the back of their house to not look like a series of additions but couldn't see how to do all of that.
My proposal visually cleaned up the back of their house and gave them a TV room and a mudroom off the back entrance. Bumping out the existing gable of the second floor gives them enough room for a walk-in closet and a master bath to make their bedroom into a master suite.
A couple who had bought an acreage outside of town asked me to develop a plan for a modern farm house. They asked for a simple, but interesting, house that would take advantage of the views and be welcoming to guests.
I'm not above designing something simple when that is what the client asks for, "a simple and clean two car garage that can be used for a shop and tool storage."
I was approached to design a "viking style" garden shed to sit behind an existing house where the homeowners could store their garden tools and had a covered space to store their kayaks.
This house has a large mudroom but the space wasn't efficiently used so there was alway clutter everywhere. I gave them a cubbie with hooks for each person with shoe storage underneath and space for hats and gloves above, while seasonal items can be stored out of sight at the top. I even separated the kids side from the grownups side to help contain clutter prone areas.
